NAB Says Recoveries Reach Record Rs5.4 Trillion in First Half of 2026

Date:

Pakistan’s National Accountability Bureau says it recovered a record Rs5.414 trillion during the first six months of 2026, including billions in state land and compensation for fraud victims.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s National Accountability Bureau (NAB) says it recovered a record Rs5.414 trillion during the first six months of 2026, marking the highest-ever recovery figure reported by the anti-corruption watchdog for a six-month period.

According to a NAB statement, the bureau recovered Rs2.452 trillion during the second quarter of 2026 alone, significantly contributing to the overall recovery total.

NAB said the recoveries included state land, public assets, and compensation for victims of housing and financial fraud.

Among its regional offices, NAB Sukkur recorded the highest overall recovery figures during the reporting period.

The bureau highlighted several major land recovery operations carried out across the country.

According to NAB:

  • NAB Balochistan recovered 209,544 acres of forest and state land valued at Rs604.64 billion, including areas within Hingol National Park along the coastal highway and land belonging to the Gwadar Industrial Estate Development Authority (GIEDA).
  • NAB Karachi recovered 11,422 acres of illegally allotted state land and disputed leases linked to housing societies and private individuals, with an estimated value of Rs467.11 billion.
  • NAB Lahore recovered 1,909 acres of land worth Rs288.29 billion, including property associated with PCBL and other state-owned land.
  • NAB Islamabad/Rawalpindi recovered 810 acres of land valued at Rs66.63 billion, including Capital Development Authority (CDA) amenity plots located in various housing societies.

NAB also reported progress in cases involving housing schemes and financial fraud.

The bureau said 24,365 victims of public fraud received compensation through the return of money and assets totaling Rs42.303 billion.

According to the statement, the recovered funds were returned to individuals affected by fraudulent investment and housing-related schemes.

NAB described the Rs5.414 trillion recovered during the first half of 2026 as the highest six-month recovery figure in the institution’s history.

The bureau said the recoveries reflect ongoing efforts to reclaim public assets, recover illegally occupied state land, and provide financial relief to victims of fraud.

NAB is expected to continue investigations and recovery operations across Pakistan as part of its accountability mandate.

The bureau has not indicated whether additional large-scale recoveries are expected during the remainder of 2026 but said efforts to recover public assets and compensate victims of financial crimes will continue.
