Oil Tanker Damaged in Projectile Attack Near Oman

A maritime security alert says an unidentified projectile struck a tanker near Oman’s coast, damaging its engine room as authorities investigate the incident.

MUSCAT, Oman — WEB DESK: An oil tanker was damaged after being struck by an unidentified projectile off the coast of Oman, according to a maritime security alert issued by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations> (UKMTO).

The incident occurred approximately 11 nautical miles northeast of Lima, Oman, where the vessel sustained damage to its engine room.

Engine Room Damaged

According to UKMTO, the report was submitted by the vessel’s company security officer, who said the projectile struck the ship’s engine room.

Regional coast guard authorities were immediately notified, and an investigation into the incident is underway.

No Casualties Reported

UKMTO said there were no reports of casualties or environmental pollution following the attack.

The identity and flag state of the affected tanker had not been disclosed at the time of publication.

Investigation Continues

Authorities have not identified who launched the projectile, and no group has claimed responsibility.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.

Regional Security Concerns

The incident comes amid heightened security tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, following recent military confrontations involving the United States and Iran.
