Eight bodies recovered after Broad Peak avalanche; search continues for two climbers

Rescue teams have recovered the bodies of eight climbers after an avalanche on Broad Peak in Pakistan’s Karakoram range. The search continues for two missing mountaineers.

Skardu, Paksitan — Web Desk: Rescue teams have recovered the bodies of eight climbers who went missing after an avalanche on Broad Peak, while search operations continue for two remaining missing mountaineers in Pakistan’s Karakoram mountain range.

The latest recovery operation located four additional bodies, bringing the total number of recovered victims to eight.

According to officials, three of the four bodies recovered earlier in the day were airlifted to Skardu by helicopter, while rescue teams remain on the mountain searching for the remaining two climbers.

Provincial Minister for Tourism Neknam Karim said every possible effort is being made to locate the missing climbers, adding that the Tourism Department is providing logistical support to the search and rescue mission.

The expedition included climbers from the United States, China, Nepal and Oman, along with Pakistani mountaineer Sohail Sakhi.

Broad Peak, located in the Karakoram Range, stands at 8,047 metres (26,401 feet) and is the world’s 12th-highest mountain.
