Israeli Army Chief Warns of Wider Military Operations in Southern Lebanon

Date:

Military chief says Israeli forces will remain in occupied positions until long-term security objectives are met, amid continued tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border.

TEL AVIV, Israel — WEB DESK: Israeli Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir has said the Israeli military will maintain its presence in areas under its control in southern Lebanon until Israel’s long-term security objectives are achieved, warning that military operations could expand if deemed necessary.

According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Zamir made the remarks during a visit to Israeli troops deployed in southern Lebanon, where he received operational briefings and assessed the security situation.

Israel Signals Continued Military Presence

During the visit, Zamir said Israeli forces continue to operate against what he described as militant infrastructure in areas under Israeli control.

He added that if security conditions require it, the military is prepared to widen its operations to additional areas.

“We will remain here until we are confident that Israel’s long-term security is ensured,” he said, according to the Israeli military.

Border Tensions Continue

The comments come amid ongoing tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border, where intermittent exchanges of fire and military activity have continued despite international efforts to reduce hostilities.

Israeli officials have repeatedly said military operations are intended to address security threats near the northern border.

Regional Concerns

Lebanese authorities and regional actors have continued to criticize Israel’s military presence in southern Lebanon, calling on the international community to help prevent further escalation and uphold regional stability.

No immediate response from the Lebanese government or Hezbollah to Zamir’s latest remarks was available at the time of publication.

Analysts say the Israeli military chief’s comments indicate that tensions along the border are likely to remain high in the near term, although the future course of events will depend on developments on the ground and diplomatic efforts.
