Washington D.C. – Web Desk: President Donald Trump has announced that the United States will use frozen Iranian assets under US control to compensate for damages caused to commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz .
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said the cost of damages inflicted by Iran or Iran-linked elements on commercial shipping “will not be borne by American taxpayers.”
“We will use Iran’s money to pay for the damage they have caused,” Trump said. “The Iranian funds under our control will be used to compensate affected ships and cargo.”
The announcement follows a series of recent attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil trade, which have heightened concerns over maritime security and energy supplies .
According to reports, the US Treasury Department is finalizing details of the plan, including the total amount of damages, how much will be drawn from frozen assets, and the compensation mechanism.
There has been no official response from Iran so far.
