Rubio: Iran Is “Begging” for a Deal but Not Serious About Diplomacy

Date:

Manila, Philippines – Web Desk: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has accused Iran of “begging” for a diplomatic deal while simultaneously refusing to change its behavior, stating that the United States remains open to negotiations but will not accept continued aggression in the region .

Accusations and Warnings

Speaking to journalists in Manila on the sidelines of the ASEAN Regional Forum, Rubio said that Iran has repeatedly contacted the US, “calling to beg for a deal,” yet its actions—including attacks in the Strait of Hormuz and threats to commercial shipping—show a lack of serious intent .

“If Iran wants negotiations, America is ready. But if not, Washington will take necessary steps to protect its interests and those of its allies,” Rubio said . He added that “Iran is paying an increasing price every night for its actions, and this will continue until it changes its behavior.”

Rubio’s Statement

“Every night, they are paying an increasing price. That will continue until they decide to change their behavior,” he added. Rubio reiterated that the US is “leaving the door open for diplomacy” but stressed that Tehran must change its behavior first .

Regional and Security Issues

Rubio also touched on security issues in the South China Sea, calling China’s growing activities in the region “concerning” and affirming that the US would work with its allies to maintain stability in the region .
