NATO Backs US Airstrikes on Iran, Calls Military Action ‘Necessary Step’

Date:

ANKARA, Turkiye – Web Desk: NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has voiced support for the United States’ recent airstrikes on Iran, describing Washington’s military response as “absolutely necessary” following what the US described as a violation of the ceasefire.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the NATO summit in Ankara, Rutte stated that in situations where a ceasefire exists and one party violates it, a robust reaction from the other party is critically important. He expressed his belief that the US action was required to prevent further deterioration and maintain stability in the region. “If a ceasefire exists and one side violates it, the other side must respond strongly,” Rutte said.

The statement comes as the US conducted fresh airstrikes on Iran, with Washington claiming the operation was in response to attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and alleged ceasefire violations. Iran, meanwhile, has condemned the US strikes as illegal aggression and reserved the right to respond in defense of its sovereignty and national security.

Analysts suggest that the NATO chief’s open endorsement indicates the Western alliance is aligning closely with Washington’s stance. However, the escalating tensions remain a significant concern for global security and energy markets. Experts warn that further escalation could impact international trade, oil supply, and global diplomacy.
