BERLIN, Germany – Web Desk: The German Foreign Ministry has summoned China’s ambassador in Berlin following media reports alleging that Russian military personnel are being trained in China . The ministry described the reports as “highly concerning,” stating they point to support for Russia by Chinese state actors, particularly the People’s Liberation Army .
The ministry further emphasized that “anything that enables Russia to continue its war of aggression against Ukraine is also a threat to our security.” The German government has regularly raised its concerns over China’s backing of Russia. The matter gained particular attention during Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s visit to China in February, and the ministry stated it is addressing the issue “intensively with its European partners.”
Beijing has consistently denied providing lethal aid to Russia for its war in Ukraine . However, Western intelligence officials have warned that Chinese state-owned defense companies have been supplying Russia with “dual-use” goods that facilitate its military campaign . Last week, the UK and US intelligence agencies reportedly presented evidence suggesting Russian forces are receiving support from Chinese military trainers, further straining relations with Europe .
