LOS ANGELES, United States – Web Desk: Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and his Knight Riders Group have created history by establishing an international-standard cricket stadium in the United States, marking a significant milestone in the global expansion of the sport.
The newly constructed venue in Los Angeles, named the Knight Riders Cricket Ground, hosted its first Major League Cricket (MLC) match featuring the Los Angeles Knight Riders against the Washington Freedom. Designed as a permanent cricket hub in Los Angeles rather than just a temporary venue, the stadium meets all ICC requirements with a main square featuring eight wickets, regulation ground dimensions, and six 120-foot-tall floodlight towers.
The ambitious project required the relocation of over 32,000 metric tons of soil to create the state-of-the-art facility. Shah Rukh Khan expressed his joy at the achievement, stating, “The dream we saw years ago has now become a reality.”
According to Khan, the vision behind the project extends beyond hosting cricket matches. “The aim is to create a place where sport, entertainment, family, and community can all come together,” he said. Knight Riders Sports CEO Venky Mysore termed the project a crucial part of the franchise’s global strategy, emphasizing that modern infrastructure is essential for promoting cricket in new markets.
The Knight Riders Group currently owns four franchises across three continents: Kolkata Knight Riders (IPL), Trinbago Knight Riders (CPL), Abu Dhabi Knight Riders (ILT20), and Los Angeles Knight Riders (MLC). The group has secured a total of nine major titles across various leagues worldwide.
