Washington, United States – Web Desk: The United States has temporarily lifted restrictions on Iranian oil and petrochemical exports following diplomatic talks held in Switzerland, according to official statements.
The US Treasury Department confirmed the issuance of a general license allowing the production, transportation, and limited export of Iranian crude oil and petrochemical products. The measure is part of a temporary sanctions relief arrangement agreed after recent negotiations.
Under the license, Iran will be permitted to export and sell crude oil until 21 August 2026. The authorization also includes limited provisions for the import of Iranian crude oil, petrochemical, and petroleum-based products into the United States, according to the Treasury Department.
US officials said the decision follows discussions in Switzerland and is intended as a temporary step while broader negotiations continue. The US Treasury Secretary also indicated in a social media post that the move represents a limited easing of restrictions tied to ongoing diplomatic engagement.
Iran had previously been subject to strict US sanctions on its oil sales, significantly limiting its access to global energy markets.
The development comes amid reports, including from Reuters citing senior Iranian officials, that Washington may ease certain restrictions temporarily under a proposed framework agreement, while refraining from imposing new sanctions during ongoing talks.
