Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: Justice Munib Akhtar, the senior-most judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, was sworn in as the Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan in a ceremony at the Supreme Court’s branch registry in Karachi .
The oath was administered by Justice Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui, the Acting Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court, in a dignified ceremony attended by Supreme Court and Federal Constitutional Court judges, registry officers, the registrar, and prominent members of the legal community.
According to a Supreme Court statement, the appointment was made due to the absence of Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, who is currently abroad . Justice Akhtar will serve as acting chief justice during the CJP’s absence and will assume his duties accordingly .
Chief Justice Yahya Afridi is expected to return to Pakistan and resume his official duties on June 10 . In the seniority list of the Supreme Court, Chief Justice Yahya Afridi is followed by Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, with Justice Munib Akhtar ranked second .
