Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: US-Iran technical talks begin in Switzerland with Pakistan facilitating dialogue under the Islamabad Memorandum
Technical-level talks between the United States and Iran are scheduled to take place in Switzerland on June 21 under Pakistan’s mediation as part of efforts to implement the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, according to Pakistan’s Foreign Office.
In an official statement, the Foreign Office spokesperson said the negotiations will be held in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, following the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum. Representatives from both the United States and Iran will participate in the discussions, while officials from Pakistan and Qatar will attend in their roles as mediators.
The Foreign Office said Pakistan will continue facilitating the diplomatic process aimed at advancing understandings reached under the Islamabad Memorandum and helping both countries move forward on key areas of mutual engagement.
The statement added that Pakistan remains committed to promoting regional peace, stability and the peaceful resolution of disputes through constructive diplomacy.
Meanwhile, sources said a high-level Pakistani delegation is expected to travel to Switzerland to participate in the technical talks. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is also expected to attend the discussions, although no official confirmation has yet been issued.
Separately, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi arrived in Tehran to support ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at ensuring the success of the US-Iran dialogue process. During his visit, he held talks with Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, where both sides exchanged views on regional developments and bilateral cooperation.
The upcoming negotiations are being closely watched by regional and international observers amid renewed diplomatic efforts to ease tensions and encourage dialogue between Washington and Tehran.
