WASHINGTON: U.S. President Donald Trump has once again praised Pakistan’s civilian and military leadership, describing Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as “great leaders” and acknowledging Pakistan’s role in efforts related to diplomatic engagement with Iran.
Speaking in an interview with a U.S.-based media outlet, President Trump said that Field Marshal Asim Munir is a “great man” and commended the strong working relationship between Pakistan’s military and political leadership.
Trump specifically highlighted the respect shown by the army chief toward Pakistan’s elected government, stating that Field Marshal Asim Munir holds his prime minister in high regard, describing it as “a very beautiful thing.”
The U.S. president also credited Pakistani leaders with assisting efforts linked to discussions involving Iran. According to Trump, Pakistan’s leadership was able to provide valuable support because of its understanding of Iran’s leadership and close familiarity with the Iranian people.
The remarks come amid ongoing international attention on regional diplomacy, Middle East stability, and efforts to reduce tensions involving Iran. Pakistan has traditionally maintained diplomatic relations with both Western countries and regional powers, often positioning itself as a bridge for dialogue in complex geopolitical situations.
Later, while addressing an event, Trump said Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to visit the United States in September. He also noted that China played an important role regarding developments involving Iran.
Trump further stated that China purchases approximately 50 percent of its oil requirements from Iran, underscoring Beijing’s significant economic ties with Tehran. He reiterated that the United States continues to maintain strong relations with Israel.
The U.S. president additionally revealed that he expects to visit China again at some point later this year, signaling continued engagement between Washington and Beijing despite ongoing strategic competition between the world’s two largest economies.
Trump’s comments are likely to draw attention in Pakistan and across the broader region, where diplomatic efforts involving Iran, China, the United States, and key regional stakeholders remain closely watched.
