Karachi Port Sets New National Container Handling Record

Date:

Karachi, Pakistan – Web Desk: Karachi Port has set a new national container handling record before the conclusion of fiscal year 2025-26, reinforcing its position as Pakistan’s largest container-handling seaport.

According to official figures, Karachi Port handled more than 2.651 million TEUs (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units) before the fiscal year ended, marking the highest container throughput in the country’s history.

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said the achievement reflects growing business confidence in Pakistan’s maritime sector and highlights the increasing efficiency of port operations.

He credited the milestone to the dedication and hard work of Karachi Port Trust (KPT) officers and staff, adding that Pakistan’s shipping and logistics capabilities continue to strengthen. The minister reiterated the government’s commitment to transforming Pakistan into a regional transshipment and logistics hub.

KPT Chairman Admiral Shahid Ahmed said port reforms and infrastructure modernization have significantly increased cargo traffic. He noted that Karachi Port continues to play a vital role in supporting Pakistan’s economy, trade growth, and maritime connectivity.

The record-breaking performance is being viewed as a positive indicator for Pakistan’s trade sector, logistics industry, and economic activity as the country seeks to expand its regional maritime footprint.
