Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: Security sources in Pakistan have said that the Iran–United States issue being handled by Islamabad is highly complex, stressing that the country is focused on diplomacy rather than “headline-driven politics.”
According to senior security officials, Pakistan’s role in the Iran–US situation has been that of a mediator, with the top military leadership prioritising regional peace and stability.
Officials said Pakistan is not interested in “headline diplomacy” and has instead followed all requirements of its mediating role, adding that global understanding of Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts is gradually increasing.
They stated that had the conflict escalated further, it could have led to serious consequences for global energy markets, economies, and regional security.
Security sources also noted that several Muslim countries, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates, supported de-escalation efforts, alongside Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement.
The officials said Pakistan maintains strong bilateral relations with Iran, the United States, Saudi Arabia, and other regional states, and also seeks improved ties with Afghanistan.
Referring to regional developments, sources said Pakistan does not view diplomatic interactions between other countries as a concern, and maintains a balanced foreign policy approach.
They further claimed that coordinated diplomatic efforts by Pakistan’s civilian and military leadership helped build trust among all sides, reinforcing Pakistan’s position as a credible intermediary.
Security officials also highlighted counter-terrorism operations, stating that more than 32,000 intelligence-based operations were conducted by June 2026, resulting in the killing of 1,861 militants, while 640 security personnel and civilians were martyred in various incidents.
They added that Pakistan continues to face security challenges, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, where a majority of incidents were reported.
Officials reiterated that Pakistan’s internal and external security strategy remains focused on stability, dialogue, and counter-terrorism, while rejecting allegations or speculation regarding internal political contacts.
