Birmingham, United Kingdom – Web Desk: Pakistan’s women’s cricket team has been fined after suffering a 64-run defeat to India in their opening match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, officials confirmed.
The match, played on Sunday at Edgbaston in Birmingham, saw Pakistan penalised for a slow over-rate after failing to complete their overs within the allotted time. Match referee Trudy Anderson imposed a five percent fine on the team’s match fee.
Pakistan captain Fatima Sana accepted the sanction, meaning no formal hearing was required.
According to officials, on-field umpires Claire Polosak and Jacqueline Williams, along with third umpire Eloise Sheridan and fourth umpire Sue Redfern, levelled the charge under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct.
The penalty comes shortly after Pakistan’s 64-run defeat to India, a result that added pressure on the team at the start of their World Cup campaign.
The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup continues as teams compete for early momentum in the tournament, with Pakistan now facing added scrutiny over discipline and performance standards.
