Bilawal vows housing scheme and greater rights for Gilgit-Baltistan

Date:

Ghizer, Pakistan – Web Desk: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that his party would launch a comprehensive housing initiative for Gilgit-Baltistan if elected to power in the region.

Addressing a public gathering in Ghizer during the election campaign, he said a PPP government would ensure “full rights” for the people of Gilgit-Baltistan and continue supporting the principles of the 18th Constitutional Amendment, which he said had strengthened provincial autonomy in Pakistan.

Bilawal added that the party would extend similar autonomy arrangements to Gilgit-Baltistan, arguing that the region should be granted governance rights comparable to those of Pakistan’s provinces.

He further said Gilgit-Baltistan would be treated as a priority for potential provincial status if any other region in the country also seeks similar constitutional changes.

On housing, he announced the launch of a “Gilgit-Baltistan Housing Initiative” under a PPP government, aimed at addressing ownership issues and improving access to land and housing in the region.

He also stated that large tracts of state-owned land—both agricultural and non-agricultural—could be considered for transfer to local residents to strengthen ownership rights, if his party comes to power.
