KYIV – Web Desk: Russia launched a massive missile attack on Kyiv, including the hypersonic Oreshnik missile, killing at least 4 people and wounding over 100 others, according to international media reports.
Explosions were heard throughout the night as Russian forces bombarded the Ukrainian capital, with civilians seeking shelter in underground metro stations. Fires broke out across various parts of the city, with multiple buildings destroyed or severely damaged, including residential homes, schools, universities, museums, theaters, markets, and shopping centers.
Ukrainian President Zelensky described the attack as an act of “extreme madness,” stating that Russia had targeted civilian infrastructure and called for urgent delivery of additional air defense systems. The Russian military confirmed using the nuclear-capable hypersonic Oreshnik missile but denied targeting civilian areas, claiming the strikes were aimed at Ukrainian military and intelligence centers.
Damage was recorded in all districts of Kyiv, with approximately 30 buildings completely or partially destroyed. The National Art Museum of Kyiv, the Philharmonic Hall, and several historical buildings were also hit, while a new museum dedicated to the 1986 Chornobyl nuclear disaster was completely destroyed. The Albanian ambassador’s residence was damaged, prompting Albania to summon the Russian envoy. Offices of German broadcasters ARD and Deutsche Welle were also affected, while the World Health Organization reported damage to its offices in Kyiv from debris.
