US in Constant Contact with Field Marshal Asim Munir, Hopeful for Iran Agreement

Date:

STOCKHOLM – Web Desk: The United States remains in continuous contact with Pakistan’s Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, with hopes rising for a ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran, according to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of a NATO meeting in Sweden, Rubio stated that Pakistan is playing a key role in ongoing diplomatic negotiations with Iran, and he remains in constant contact with Field Marshal Asim Munir, who has also arrived in Tehran. The final draft of the US-Iran ceasefire agreement has likely been completed.

Rubio praised Pakistan’s leadership, saying, “The Pakistani leadership has played a commendable role in this diplomatic process. Pakistan is acting as a primary mediator in talks between the US and Iran.” He expressed hope that an acceptable agreement with Iran could be reached, though several important issues remain to be resolved, including Iran’s nuclear program, uranium enrichment, and the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.

The US Secretary of State made clear that America will not allow Iran to obtain nuclear weapons under any circumstances. He described Iran’s reported plan to impose toll taxes or fees on passage through the Strait of Hormuz as unacceptable, stating that the international community should oppose it.
