WASHINGTON – Web Desk: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has confirmed that a Pakistani mediation delegation will visit Iran today, expressing hope that some positive signals are emerging from recent ceasefire negotiations between the US and Iran.
Speaking to journalists, Rubio stated optimistically that the Pakistani delegation is traveling to Iran today for talks on the ceasefire draft. He noted that some good indicators are coming from recent negotiations and that limited progress has been made in discussions with Iran. However, adopting a cautious tone, he said, “I don’t want to be overly optimistic. The situation will become clearer in the coming days.”
Since President Trump extended the ceasefire, Pakistan’s mediation role has intensified. Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has already visited Iran twice within 24 hours, holding meetings with senior Iranian leadership. According to diplomatic sources, Pakistan has been attempting for several weeks to facilitate messaging between Iran and the US, reduce tensions, and find a middle ground for a potential ceasefire or peace agreement.
Qatar and other Gulf countries have also praised Pakistan’s mediation role, commending its efforts for peace in the Middle East. Iranian leadership has acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts, while President Donald Trump has repeatedly praised Pakistan’s role, stating that Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif are great people.
