North Korea Amends Constitution, Expands Kim Jong Un Powers

Date:

Pyongyang, North Korea – Web Desk: North Korea has amended its constitution, formally designating leader Kim Jong Un as the head of state while significantly expanding his powers, according to South Korean news agency reports.

Under the revised constitution, Kim Jong Un, who chairs the State Affairs Commission, has been officially recognized as the country’s head of state. The changes also grant him authority beyond the Supreme People’s Assembly, strengthening his control over national governance.

The revised framework also gives Kim clear command over North Korea’s nuclear forces, with the authority to delegate operational control if necessary.

The constitution now describes North Korea as a “responsible nuclear state” and states that its nuclear program will continue for national security and deterrence purposes.

Additionally, the amendments remove the Supreme People’s Assembly’s previous authority to dismiss the head of the State Affairs Commission, effectively eliminating legislative oversight over the position.
