Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: Pakistan is focused on turning the temporary ceasefire between Iran and the United States into a permanent agreement, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said on Tuesday.
Addressing the 6th International Paigham-e-Islam Conference in Islamabad, Dar stated that Pakistan has played an active diplomatic role in facilitating dialogue between the two countries and promoting de-escalation in regional tensions.
He said Pakistan helped bring the United States and Iran to the same negotiating table after 47 years, noting that Islamabad also participated in the talks alongside other stakeholders. According to Dar, earlier indirect talks were mediated through Oman, but Pakistan pushed for direct engagement.
Dar added that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif tasked him, along with the National Security Adviser and the military leadership, to engage in intensive negotiations that continued for 21 hours without interruption.
He said Pakistan’s efforts contributed to multiple extensions of a ceasefire, helping reduce casualties amid ongoing hostilities in the Middle East.
The foreign minister also reiterated Pakistan’s stance on key regional disputes, including Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir, calling them longstanding priorities. He said Pakistan continues to advocate for peace through international platforms including the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Dar stressed that Pakistan’s relationship with Saudi Arabia remains central to its foreign policy, describing the Kingdom and the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah as “red lines” for the country.
He further said Pakistan’s government is committed to strengthening unity among Muslim nations and preventing further regional fragmentation, emphasizing that collective cooperation is essential for peace and stability.
