Washington, United States – Web Desk:U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has stated that the Strait of Hormuz is an international transit route that cannot be controlled by any single country, urging Iran to return to negotiations amid rising regional tensions.
Speaking at a press conference at the White House, Rubio said the U.S.-led maritime initiative “Project Freedom” is aimed at safeguarding civilian lives and ensuring the security of global shipping lanes, not targeting any specific nation. He emphasized that Iran would not be allowed to establish control over the vital waterway.
According to Rubio, U.S. forces have destroyed seven Iranian fast boats in recent operations and continue to target drones and vessels deemed a threat. He noted that escalating tensions in the region have resulted in the deaths of 10 civilian sailors, underscoring the risks to maritime security.
The U.S. official accused Iran of engaging in “criminal activities” in the Strait of Hormuz and said Washington is increasing its military presence to protect commercial shipping. He called on Tehran to acknowledge “ground realities” and pursue diplomatic engagement.
Rubio also revealed that efforts to address the Middle East crisis are being coordinated by Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff. He claimed that U.S. sanctions and blockades are costing Iran approximately $500 million per day.
In addition, Rubio said that “Operation Epic Fury” against Iran has been completed, with all objectives achieved. He added that U.S. President Donald Trump aims to empower the Iranian people regarding their future.
Analysts say the remarks come amid heightened geopolitical tensions in the Gulf, where disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz—one of the world’s most critical oil transit chokepoints—continue to impact global energy markets and security dynamics.
