Israel to Transfer Gaza Aid Flotilla Detainees to Greece

Date:

Tel Aviv, Israel – Web Desk: Israel has decided to transfer detained members of a Gaza-bound aid flotilla to Greece, a move that has raised concern among diplomatic and human rights circles.

According to regional media reports, Israeli authorities had initially indicated that around 175 detainees would be brought to Israel. However, following coordination with the Greek government, it was decided that the individuals would instead be transported directly to Greece.

Israeli officials said the detainees would be disembarked on Greek shores within hours.

The flotilla, identified as the Global Sumoud aid mission, was carrying humanitarian assistance for Gaza when it was intercepted by Israeli naval forces in international waters. Several activists were detained during the operation.

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar strongly condemned the interception, calling it a clear violation of international law. He said obstructing humanitarian aid efforts was an irresponsible act that required immediate global attention.

Dar urged the international community to ensure the prompt release of all volunteers and aid workers involved, stressing the need for accountability over actions that undermine international legal norms.

Aid organizations said contact with some of the detained activists had been lost since the interception, heightening concerns about their safety.

The incident has reignited debate over maritime law, humanitarian access to Gaza, and the broader geopolitical tensions in the region.
