NEPRA Clarifies Rules on Solar Licensing in Pakistan

Date:

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan – Web Desk: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority has issued a clarification regarding solar licensing rules, saying that misleading information has been circulating about the regulatory framework.

NEPRA officials said that under the existing system, all solar net metering users are required to obtain approval from the authority.

They added that before the introduction of updated regulations, approvals for connections up to 25 kilowatts were handled by distribution companies rather than the regulator itself.

According to NEPRA, off-grid solar users are not directly subject to its licensing approval process.

The regulator emphasized that recent claims about mandatory licensing for all solar users are incorrect and based on misinformation.

Officials said the clarification aims to ensure transparency and correct public understanding of Pakistan’s evolving renewable energy regulations.
