Iran Rejects Ceasefire Extension, Calls It US War Tactic

Date:

Tehran, Iran – Web Desk: Iran has dismissed the United States’ decision to extend the ceasefire, describing it as a strategic move aimed at buying time for potential military action.

Mehdi Mohammadi, an adviser to the speaker of Iran’s parliament, criticized the announcement by Donald Trump, arguing that the extension lacks credibility and should not be taken at face value.

In a statement shared on social media, Mohammadi said that a party that is losing a war cannot dictate terms, adding that the continuation of a blockade is equivalent to ongoing aggression. He warned that such actions should be met with a military response.

He further claimed that the ceasefire extension was merely a tactic to create an opportunity for a surprise attack, urging Iran to take the initiative and act according to its own strategic priorities.

The remarks come after President Trump announced an extension of the ceasefire following a request from Pakistan’s leadership, including Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. While delaying direct military action, Washington has maintained its naval blockade in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.

The latest statements highlight deep mistrust between Tehran and Washington, raising concerns over the durability of the ceasefire and the prospects for renewed diplomatic engagement.
