Lahore, Pakistan – Web Desk: Former National Security Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Nasir Khan Janjua has said Pakistan is poised to become a major hub for regional and global trade, highlighting the country’s growing strategic and economic importance.
Speaking at an event at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Janjua noted that Pakistan has historically been viewed as a buffer zone, with prolonged regional conflicts—particularly in Afghanistan—impacting its development. However, he emphasized that shifting geopolitical dynamics are positioning Pakistan as a vital trade corridor.
He said India has limited access to Central Asia without passing through Pakistan, underlining the country’s geographical significance. “In the future, regional and global trade routes are likely to move through Pakistan,” he added.
Janjua also pointed to the strategic role of Balochistan and Gwadar, noting their potential to connect Pakistan with the Middle East, Central Asia, China, and Europe. These links could significantly transform not only Pakistan’s economy but also the broader regional economic landscape.
Meanwhile, Lahore Chamber President Faheem ur Rehman Sehgal said the importance of Gwadar Port is steadily increasing and will play a key role in Pakistan’s economic future. He added that major trade and energy corridors are expected to pass through Pakistan, further enhancing its strategic relevance.
The event also included the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Lahore Chamber and Gwadar Gymkhana, aimed at strengthening economic cooperation.
