Washington, United States – Web Desk: The United States has announced a reward of up to $10 million for information leading to the capture of Ahmed al-Hamidawi, the head of the Iran-backed Iraqi militia Kataib Hezbollah.
According to the US State Department, the reward has been issued under its “Rewards for Justice” program, citing the group’s involvement in attacks against American interests and personnel in Iraq.
In a statement, US officials alleged that Kataib Hezbollah, under al-Hamidawi’s leadership, has carried out attacks on US diplomatic facilities, targeted American citizens, and contributed to violence against Iraqi civilians.
The group is also accused of abducting individuals, including a US journalist reportedly kidnapped in Baghdad last month and later released under conditions requiring departure from Iraq.
Additionally, the organization has been linked to the abduction of an Israeli researcher approximately two and a half years ago, who was released last year.
The State Department described Kataib Hezbollah as a destabilizing force in the region, warning that its activities pose a significant threat to diplomatic missions and regional security.
Kataib Hezbollah is among several armed groups operating in Iraq that are considered close allies of Iran. The United States has previously imposed sanctions and taken measures against the group over its alleged militant activities.
Analysts say the reward announcement reflects Washington’s continued efforts to counter Iran-backed militias and reinforce security in Iraq and the broader Middle East.
