Beijing, China – Web Desk: Chinese President Xi Jinping has strongly reiterated Beijing’s position on Taiwan, declaring that “Taiwan independence will never be accepted or tolerated.”
According to state-linked media, Xi made the remarks during a meeting in Beijing with Taiwanese opposition leader Cheng Li-wun, where he emphasized that global conditions remain unstable and that peace is a “precious and fragile priority.”
Xi stated that people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to the same Chinese nation and share a common desire for peace and stability.
He further warned that Taiwan independence remains the biggest threat to peace in the Taiwan Strait, adding that China would firmly oppose any such movement under all circumstances.
Xi also stressed that when there is harmony within the national “family,” prosperity follows naturally, reinforcing Beijing’s long-standing view that reunification is essential for regional stability.
During the meeting, Cheng Li-wun expressed support for closer ties, stating that efforts should be made to build a modern Chinese society together.
The statement comes amid continuing geopolitical tensions between China and Taiwan, a self-governed island that Beijing considers part of its territory.
