Iran-US Ceasefire Plan Dubbed ‘Islamabad Accord’: Reuters

Date:

Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: A proposed ceasefire framework between Iran and the United States is being referred to as the “Islamabad Accord,” according to sources familiar with the negotiations cited by Reuters.

The British news agency reported that the framework, shared by Pakistan, outlines a two-phase plan aimed at de-escalating tensions in the Middle East. The first phase calls for an immediate ceasefire, followed by negotiations on a comprehensive and lasting agreement.

Under the proposal, the Strait of Hormuz — a vital global oil transit route — would be reopened immediately as part of initial confidence-building measures. Subsequently, both sides would work within a 15 to 20-day period to finalize a broader ceasefire agreement and establish a structured framework for long-term stability.

Sources indicated that consensus on the Islamabad Accord could be reached as early as today, although no official confirmation has been issued by either Washington or Tehran. The development comes amid heightened geopolitical tensions and growing international efforts to prevent further escalation in the region.

Pakistan’s role in facilitating the proposal highlights its diplomatic engagement in promoting regional peace and stability, particularly at a time when global energy markets remain sensitive to developments around the Strait of Hormuz.
