Pakistan Oil Tanker Owners Threaten Strike Over Fuel Rates

Date:

Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: Pakistan’s oil tanker contractors have threatened to halt fuel supply nationwide following a sharp increase in petroleum prices, demanding an immediate revision in transportation rates.

The Oil Tanker Contractors Association warned that operations could be suspended if their demands are not met, raising concerns over potential fuel shortages across key regions.

Association President Abdullah Afridi said no oil tankers would be loaded from Saturday, stressing that it is no longer financially viable to operate under current freight rates. “Continuing operations at existing rates would result in severe financial losses. It is better to park the vehicles than operate at a loss,” he said.

Afridi cautioned that a prolonged strike could disrupt fuel supply in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and other parts of the country, affecting transportation and industrial activity.

He added that the association has been in contact with government officials for over a week, including multiple attempts to reach Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, but no breakthrough has been achieved.

The association also raised concerns over changes in pipeline quotas, which they say have negatively impacted tanker operators.

Afridi reiterated that tanker services will remain suspended until transportation fares are increased, warning of a nationwide strike and protests if their demands continue to be ignored. He urged tanker owners to stop operations and participate in the protest movement.
