KHAIRPUR, Pakistan – Web Desk: Pakistan’s leading exploration company, Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), has announced a significant natural gas discovery in Sindh’s Khairpur district, offering a potential boost to the country’s energy supply amid an ongoing fuel crisis.
According to an OGDCL spokesperson, the discovery was made at the Sehto-1 well, located in Khairpur. The well is currently producing approximately 17.2 million cubic feet of gas per day (MMcfd).
Drilling operations at the site began in December 2025 and reached a total depth of 3,870 meters before successfully encountering gas reserves.
The discovery comes at a critical time as Pakistan faces mounting energy challenges, including rising import costs and supply constraints. Officials say the new reserves are expected to help ease the country’s energy shortfall and reduce reliance on imported fuels.
Energy experts believe continued exploration success by OGDCL could play a key role in strengthening Pakistan’s energy security and stabilizing the domestic gas supply in the coming years.
