Vatican City, Vatican City – Web Desk: Pope Leo has called on the United States, Israel, and Iran to immediately halt hostilities in the Middle East, warning that the escalating conflict has already caused devastating humanitarian consequences across the region.
Speaking after Sunday prayers at the Vatican, the pontiff said he was appealing “on behalf of Christians in the Middle East and all men and women of goodwill” for those responsible for the escalating tensions to end the war and pursue negotiations.
He said the region has been suffering the severe consequences of the conflict for more than two weeks, with civilians facing widespread destruction and displacement.
“Thousands of people have been killed, and a large number of families have been forced to leave their homes,” the Pope said. He added that schools, hospitals and residential neighborhoods had also been affected by the ongoing violence.
The pontiff offered prayers for those who lost loved ones in the attacks and stressed that violence can never bring justice, stability or lasting peace.
He urged world leaders to open diplomatic channels and prioritize dialogue to prevent further escalation in the already volatile Middle East.
Lebanon was also mentioned in his remarks, with the Pope expressing deep concern about the country’s fragile situation. He said meaningful negotiations could help the Lebanese government restore long-term stability and provide relief to its people.
The appeal comes as military strikes between **United States, Israel and Iran continue following the launch of air operations on February 28. Iran has since carried out retaliatory missile and drone attacks targeting Israeli territory and US military facilities in the region.
The conflict has raised growing international alarm about the risk of a broader regional war and worsening humanitarian crisis across the Middle East.
