Iran Targets India-Bound Cargo Ship in Strait of Hormuz

Date:

Web Desk | Tehran, Iran A Thailand-registered cargo ship en route to Gujarat, India, was targeted in the Strait of Hormuz amid rising tensions between Iran and Israel, officials and analysts said on Wednesday.

According to Reuters, the vessel Mayuri Nari was struck by a projectile, causing a fire and severe damage to its engine room. Most of the crew were safely evacuated. The ship was carrying commercial goods destined for India.

Experts suggest the incident highlights growing regional instability and the complexities in Iran–India relations. Analysts note that Iran may perceive India’s policy as favoring Israel while maintaining diplomatic ties with Tehran, fueling Tehran’s discontent.

“This attack is being interpreted as a strong warning from Iran amid perceived Indian alignment with Israel,” said regional security analysts. The incident underscores the fragility of maritime security in one of the world’s most strategic shipping lanes.

Authorities continue to investigate the attack, and no further casualties have been reported. Shipping operators and regional observers are monitoring developments closely.
