New York, United States – Web Desk: The United Nations has strongly condemned the recent attack on a girls’ school in Iran, calling for an independent investigation into the incident that reportedly killed several students.
Speaking during a press briefing, Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for António Guterres, described the reports of casualties among schoolgirls as deeply troubling.
He stressed that a transparent and independent investigation was necessary to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack and to ensure accountability.
Concern Over Civilian Casualties
The UN also expressed concern about increasing attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
Dujarric said that strikes targeting civilian facilities and the resulting displacement of people are particularly alarming and violate international humanitarian principles.
Call for Respect of International Law
The UN urged all parties involved in the conflict to respect International Humanitarian Law, emphasizing that civilians and educational institutions must be protected during armed conflicts.
The spokesperson also warned against attacks on energy facilities, noting that such strikes could worsen humanitarian conditions and further destabilize the region.
Appeal for De-escalation
The United Nations called on all sides to reduce tensions through diplomatic engagement and work toward an immediate cessation of hostilities.
Officials stressed that protecting civilians and safeguarding essential infrastructure must remain a top priority as regional tensions continue to rise.
