(Web Desk) Police in Bannu successfully foiled a major terror plot by defusing multiple improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted near a bridge and local market on the Bannu–Miranshah Road. Authorities confirmed that the explosives posed a serious threat to public safety but were neutralized before any damage occurred.
District police reported that two large IEDs containing over 140 kilograms of explosives were defused in the Baka Khel area, while another smaller device weighing around eight kilograms was neutralized in Kaki. The devices had been strategically placed near civilian infrastructure, raising concerns about potential casualties.
Security forces, including counterterrorism units and the Bomb Disposal Squad, acted on early intelligence and launched an operation to dismantle the explosives. During drone surveillance, three suspects allegedly attempting to remotely detonate the devices opened fire on police before fleeing into nearby bushes. No security personnel were reported injured.
The successful operation was praised by senior officials, including the Inspector General of Police in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, who announced rewards for the team involved in the defusal. Authorities emphasized continued vigilance and intelligence-based operations to counter security threats and protect civilians.
