(Web Desk) – The United States Embassy – Islamabad has announced the cancellation of all visa services in Pakistan until March 6, citing ongoing security concerns.
According to an official statement, the decision applies not only to the embassy in Islamabad but also to US consulates in Lahore and Karachi. Visa services had previously been suspended until March 2, but the restriction has now been extended.
The move follows unrest outside the US Consulate in Karachi on Sunday, where clashes during protests reportedly resulted in 10 fatalities and 35 injuries after security personnel opened fire.
Demonstrations were also reported in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi after the reported death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, with protesters surrounding diplomatic facilities.
US officials said the suspension is a precautionary measure aimed at ensuring the safety of staff and applicants. No timeline has been provided for the full resumption of services beyond March 6.
The development comes amid heightened regional tensions and increased security measures at foreign missions across Pakistan.
