Tehran, Iran – Web Desk: Iran has signed a $60 million agreement with Russia to procure the Verba air defense system, according to the British newspaper Financial Times.
The deal, reportedly finalized in Moscow last December, aims to restore Iran’s air defense capabilities that were damaged during last year’s conflict with Israel. Under the agreement, Russia will supply Iran with 500 Verba launch units and 2,500 9M336 infrared-guided missiles over a three-year period, from 2027 to 2029.
The Verba system is among Russia’s most advanced portable air defense platforms. Designed to be shoulder-fired, the infrared-guided missile system is capable of targeting cruise missiles, low-flying aircraft, and drones. Limited deliveries may have already been made to Iran ahead of the full rollout.
The Financial Times notes that this deal marks a significant enhancement of Iran’s short-range air defense capabilities and comes amid growing regional tensions in the Middle East.
