Pakistan Face New Zealand in T20 World Cup Super 8

Date:

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka – Web Desk: Pakistan will take on New Zealand in the opening match of the Super 8 stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup on Saturday, as both teams look to strengthen their campaigns in the knockout phase.

The match is scheduled to be played at the R. Premadasa Stadium, where conditions are expected to test both sides.

Pakistan and New Zealand progressed to the Super 8 stage after registering victories against lower-ranked opponents during the group phase, although both teams suffered defeats against stronger rivals in their respective groups.

Between October 2022 and April 2025, the two sides have faced each other 41 times across formats, reflecting a competitive rivalry in recent years.

New Zealand face the added challenge of adjusting to a new venue, having played all four of their previous matches in Chennai and Ahmedabad. Pakistan, meanwhile, have played most of their matches in Colombo, including one fixture at R. Premadasa Stadium and others at the Sinhalese Sports Club ground.

The contest is expected to feature a key battle between Pakistan’s spin attack and New Zealand’s batting lineup. The Black Caps have lost only 14 wickets in their four matches so far, underlining the strength of their top and middle order.

The match will begin at 6:30pm Pakistan Standard Time.
