Islamabad Launches Major Electric Bus Project to Boost Green Transport

Date:

Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: Pakistan’s Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has inaugurated an electric bus depot and charging center in Islamabad as part of a major initiative to promote environmentally friendly public transportation in the capital.

Naqvi also traveled on an electric bus with officials and received a detailed briefing on the depot facilities and charging infrastructure. Addressing the inauguration ceremony, he congratulated the project team on the successful completion of the initiative.

He said that more than 125,000 residents currently use the electric bus service daily, with a target set to increase ridership to 250,000 passengers per day. Naqvi added that special routes would be prioritized for students and educational institutions.

The interior minister also announced the extension of the electric bus service to Rawat, noting that the system, alongside the metro bus network, is helping to ease traffic congestion in the twin cities.

Officials further confirmed that Pakistan’s Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT) plans to begin local manufacturing of electric buses, while efforts are underway to restore the Rawalpindi-Islamabad railway service to improve urban mobility.
