Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has ruled that the federal government is subject to the law in the same manner as any ordinary citizen. The apex court dismissed the government’s appeal against a Service Tribunal decision, declaring it filed beyond the allowed time frame.
Justice Ayesha Malik issued the written verdict, emphasizing that the government cannot expect special privileges or exemptions in legal proceedings. The court also rejected the government’s request for condonation of delay.
The court observed that while the state enforces laws on citizens, it often seeks excuses for its own delays. Administrative hurdles or internal office rules do not justify disregarding legal timelines. The government cited officer transfers and delayed file movements as reasons for late filing.
The Supreme Court stated that bureaucratic inefficiency is the government’s responsibility and cannot burden the opposing party. Enforcement of the law is not dependent on convenience but requires strict adherence to rules. The federal government filed the appeal 20 days past the 60-day deadline.
