Avalanche in California Kills 8 Tourists Near Lake Tahoe

Date:

Lake Tahoe, United States – Web Desk: At least eight tourists were killed and one person remains missing after an avalanche struck near Lake Tahoe in California, US media reported.

According to Nevada County Sheriff Shannon Moon, the tourists were caught in the avalanche during a trip in the Sierra Nevada mountains. Six people were rescued, while search operations continue under hazardous conditions.

US authorities said six tourists participating in the three-day trip had previously been injured in separate incidents in northern California’s Sierra Nevada region.

Officials warned that severe weather conditions have hampered rescue efforts, with victims’ bodies still buried under snow. Around three feet of additional snowfall has accumulated in the area, worsening the situation.

Authorities cautioned that the risk of further avalanches remains high, urging people to avoid the affected region.
