Canadian Batter Yuvraj Samra Breaks Ahmed Shehzad’s T20 Record

Date:

Chennai, India — Web Desk: Canadian batter Yuvraj Samra broke a 12-year-old T20 World Cup record held by Pakistan’s Ahmed Shehzad after scoring a century during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup match against New Zealand.

Canada, batting first, posted 173 for 4 in their allotted 20 overs, powered by Samra’s maiden T20 World Cup century. The 19-year-old scored 110 off 65 balls, becoming the youngest player to score a century in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Samra achieved the milestone at the age of 19 years and 141 days, surpassing Ahmed Shehzad’s previous record set in 2014, when the Pakistani opener scored a century against Bangladesh at the age of 22 years and 127 days.

The Canadian batter also became the first player from an associate nation to score a century in the Men’s T20 World Cup, marking a historic moment for Canadian cricket.

Despite Samra’s innings, New Zealand chased down the 174-run target with ease, reaching the total in the 16th over for the loss of two wickets and qualifying for the Super 8 stage from Group D.

The match highlighted the growing competitiveness of associate nations in global cricket, with Samra’s performance attracting widespread international attention.
