Chennai, India — Web Desk: New Zealand secured a place in the Super 12 stage of the ICC T20 World Cup after defeating Canada in the 31st match of the tournament. The victory was powered by unbeaten innings from Glenn Phillips (76*) and Rachin Ravindra (59*).
Canadian captain Dilpreet Bajwa won the toss and opted to bat first in the Chennai contest. Openers Umeraj Samra and Bajwa gave Canada a strong start, posting a 116-run partnership before Bajwa was dismissed for 36. Canada finished their 20 overs at 173 for 4, with Samra scoring a brilliant 110 off 65 balls.
For New Zealand, Matt Henry, Jacob Duffy, Kyle Jamieson, and Jimmy Neesham took one wicket each, applying pressure on the Canadian batting lineup.
Chasing 174, New Zealand achieved the target comfortably in 15.1 overs with the loss of just two wickets. Phillips and Ravindra remained unbeaten, guiding their team to a commanding win.
With this result, New Zealand joins South Africa, who had already qualified from Group D, in the Super 12 stage, keeping their campaign on track for the ICC T20 World Cup title.
