Islamabad: (Web Desk) – The federal government has announced an increase in petroleum product prices, raising petrol by Rs5 per litre and high-speed diesel by Rs7.32 per litre for the next fortnight. The revised rates came into effect immediately after the issuance of an official notification by the Petroleum Division.
According to the notification, the new price of petrol has been set at Rs258.17 per litre following the latest adjustment. Meanwhile, the price of high-speed diesel has increased to Rs275.70 per litre, reflecting a more significant rise compared to petrol. The government reviews petroleum prices every 15 days, taking into account global oil market trends, exchange rate fluctuations, and domestic fiscal requirements.
The latest increase comes amid continued economic pressures and efforts to balance revenue needs with energy sector stability. Diesel price changes are particularly significant as they directly influence transportation costs, agriculture operations, and industrial activity, potentially contributing to broader inflationary pressures across multiple sectors.
This development follows a previous adjustment announced on January 31, when the government raised high-speed diesel prices by Rs11.30 per litre, bringing it to Rs268.38 at that time. In contrast, petrol prices were kept unchanged at Rs253.17 per litre during the previous review, offering temporary relief to consumers facing rising living costs.
Analysts note that petroleum price revisions remain a sensitive issue, as fuel costs have a direct impact on household budgets and overall economic activity. With international oil prices fluctuating and domestic fiscal challenges continuing, further adjustments in fuel prices may remain likely in upcoming reviews.
