Next US-Iran Nuclear Talks Set for Geneva, Hosted by Oman

Date:

Geneva — Web Desk: The next round of talks between the United States and Iran on Tehran’s nuclear programme will be held in Geneva next week, with Oman acting as the host, Swiss authorities confirmed.

A spokesperson for Switzerland’s Federal Department of Foreign Affairs said Switzerland remains ready to facilitate dialogue between Washington and Tehran, noting the country has played a key role in diplomatic engagement between the two sides for decades.

The talks aim to advance a potential agreement on Iran’s nuclear activities, amid increasing pressure from the United States to limit Tehran’s nuclear programme. US President Donald Trump has recently taken a hardline stance on Iran and has deployed an additional aircraft carrier to the Middle East, according to reports.

Earlier, on February 6, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held indirect discussions in Oman with US representative Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, with Omani officials mediating the contacts.

Switzerland has represented US interests in Iran since the 1980 hostage crisis and continues to manage consular affairs between the two countries.

Separately, Geneva is also expected to host US-mediated talks between Russia and Ukraine, as efforts continue to explore pathways toward ending the ongoing war.
