New Delhi, India – Web Desk: A renewed political and social debate has emerged in India over the use of the patriotic song Vande Mataram, with fresh controversy triggered by remarks from Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
According to multiple reports, some Hindu nationalist groups have been using Vande Mataram to promote ideological narratives, intensifying divisions across religious and political lines.
India’s The Statesman reported that Adityanath said those who oppose Vande Mataram should not have the right to live in India. Meanwhile, The Indian Express quoted him as calling for strict action against critics of the song. He recently also made controversial remarks regarding the Babri Mosque issue.
Analysts say the comments have raised concerns about growing religious and social polarization in India. Critics accuse the ruling party of politically leveraging Hindutva ideology, allegations the party leadership has rejected.
Political observers warn that such rhetoric could further strain relations among different religious communities, while the government maintains it is promoting national unity and cultural identity.
