Karachi, Pakistan – Web Desk: Federal Education Minister and MQM-Pakistan Convener Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui has stated that the procedure for creating new provinces is clearly outlined in the constitution. He questioned why the matter is made controversial if new provinces do not threaten the country’s unity.
Speaking at a private university event in Karachi, Dr. Siddiqui highlighted that even after the 18th Amendment, not all governance challenges have been addressed. He noted that issues like ghost schools remain unresolved and emphasized the need for administrative reforms in provinces like Punjab and Sindh, which are larger than many countries.
“Constitutionally, the procedure exists. If creating new provinces in Punjab is considered acceptable, why should administrative division discussions in Sindh or Karachi be considered illegitimate?” he asked.
Dr. Siddiqui also pointed out that Pakistan has approximately 150 million young people who need skills, not just degrees. He stressed that neighboring countries have transformed their populations into economic powerhouses, while Pakistan has missed several opportunities. “Despite China’s massive population, they focus on skills and technology development,” he said.
