Dhaka, Bangladesh — Web Desk: Bangladesh’s Jamaat-e-Islami has announced it will accept the results of the country’s 13th national parliamentary elections and pledged to play a responsible role as an opposition party.
In a statement shared on social media, Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh chief Dr. Shafiq Rahman said the party respects the overall election outcome and remains committed to upholding the rule of law. He reiterated that the party has consistently supported a stable and effective democratic system and would continue to do so.
Dr. Rahman thanked party volunteers and supporters, acknowledging that some may feel disappointed by the results. However, he said the party’s performance—winning 77 seats—marked a significant increase in its parliamentary presence, nearly quadrupling its representation and strengthening its position as an opposition force. He described the outcome not as a defeat but as a foundation for future political engagement.
He also noted that political fortunes can change over time, citing the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s limited representation in 2008 before returning to power years later. Democratic politics, he said, is a long journey focused on earning public trust, ensuring accountability, and preparing responsibly for the future.
Dr. Rahman emphasized that true leadership is tested not only by participation in elections but also by accepting the people’s verdict. He said Jamaat’s political movement is aimed at strengthening democracy, protecting citizens’ rights, and building an accountable state, adding that the party would work as a principled and peaceful opposition for national development.
