Karachi, Pakistan – Web Desk: Police in Karachi swooped on Jamaat-e-Islami’s planned press conference outside the Sindh Election Commission office, detaining multiple party leaders including MPA Muhammad Farooq and Acting Karachi Amir, Muslim Parvez.
The press briefing, scheduled ahead of the February 8 general elections, was disrupted as police dismantled tents and blocked surrounding shops and hotels. Party officials were briefly held in custody before being released.
Jamaat-e-Islami spokesperson confirmed that district leaders Sufyan Dilawar, Mudassir Hussain Ansari, and other key figures were among those detained. The incident highlights rising tensions ahead of the upcoming provincial elections.
